history

Peterswörth is first mentioned as Werde in 1225 . Wörth means shore land, peninsula or island. The place Peterswörth arose on a large number of islands that had been carved out by branches of the Danube.

Around 1270 the name Werde sancti Petri was first handed down. The place was probably created in the High Middle Ages as a development from Gundelfingen. The original settlers were probably fishermen, the church patronage also indicates this. Around 1122 Peterswörth was donated to the Echenbrunn monastery. Together with the Höchstädt regional court , Peterswörth came from the Duchy of Bavaria-Landshut to the newly formed Principality of Pfalz-Neuburg in 1505 . Until its dissolution in 1803, the place was subordinate to the Gundelfingen Care Office .
