The Petit Saut Dam ( French Barrage de Petit Saut ) is a gravity dam 36 kilometers south of Sinnamary in French Guiana . The reservoir has an area of approx. 310 km² and is therefore the largest artificial lake in France. The hydroelectric power station covers a large part of the electricity consumption of French Guiana.
history
Construction of the power plant began in July 1989. The concrete dam was built between July 1992 and February 1993. In May 1994, all work was completed and operations started.
The plant is owned by the French power producer Électricité de France (EDF).
