Sinnamary is a French commune with 2919 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the overseas department of French Guiana on the Atlantic coast in South America .
geography
Sinnamary is located on the Sinnamary river of the same name near the Atlantic coast in northern French Guiana, 112 km northwest of Cayenne and 63 km from Kourou . To the north, Sinnamary is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, to the east by Kourou, to the south by Saint-Élie and to the west by Iracoubo . At 355 m, the highest point is the Plomb in the south of the municipality. On the border with Saint-Élie there is also the Petit-Saut dam , whose energy generation is sufficient to supply a large part of French Guiana with electricity. The resulting artificial lake has an area of approx. 350 km² and is therefore the largest artificial lake in France.
