Saint-Élie is a French commune with 242 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the overseas department of French Guiana in northern South America. From 1930 to 1946 it was the capital of the French colony Inini .

geography

Saint-Élie is located in the central north of French Guiana. The municipality covers part of the densely forested mountainous country of Guiana . The Sinnamary River has its source in the municipality . The Petit-Saut dam is located in the border area to the community of the same name, Sinnamary , in the north of Saint-Élie . The resulting artificial lake has an area of ​​approx. 350 km² and is therefore the largest artificial lake in France. In addition to Sinnamary, Saint-Élie borders Iracoubo to the north, Mana and Saül to the west, Régina to the south and Roura and Kourou to the east . The highest point is the Montagne de la Trinité (636 m).
