Grand-Santi is a French commune with 7918 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the overseas department of French Guiana .
geography
Grand-Santi extends south of the montagne française , the Guanese massif central, along the river Lawa (which later flows into the Maroni ). He is the only access. The highest peaks in the municipality are Mount Kotika (730 m) and montagne française (550 m).
history
- 1930: Creation of the Inini administrative area, which also includes Grand-Santi as an administrative unit
- 1946: Establishment of French Guiana as an overseas department, transforming the administrative area of Inini into an arrondissement
- 1968: Foundation of the Grand-Santi-Papaichton-Apatou municipal district
- 1969: The municipal districts are converted into municipalities.
- 1976: Separation of the parishes of Apatou and Grand-Santi-Papaichton
- 1992: Separation of the parishes of Papaichton and Grand-Santi
population
Most of the residents of Grand-Santi are ndyuka . In the 1980s, refugees from Suriname settled there, especially in the villages of Gaa Kaba, Grand Citron, Ana Kondé and Lioni.
