geography
The municipality of Saint-Georges is located in the east of French Guiana. The Oyapock River forms the eastern border with Brazil , and Saint-Georges borders Camopi in the south, Régina in the west and Ouanary in the north . The main settlement of the municipality is right on the Oyapock, and on the other side of the bank is the Brazilian city of Oiapoque , which is located in the state of Amapá . In addition to the riverside area, the municipality of Saint-Georges includes part of the densely forested mountainous country of Guiana .
traffic
By French-Guiana standards, Saint-Georges is very well developed in terms of transport. Since 2003 the Route nationale 2 (RN2) has connected the municipality with the capital Cayenne .
With the opening of a bridge over the Oyapock in March 2017, the road connection to Oiapoque in Brazil was continued. It is the first road link between French Guiana and the rest of South America.
There is also a small airfield in Saint-Georges that offers regional flights. The Oyapock is also used as a traffic route.
