Willi Korte

Wilhelm A. Korte (* 1954 ) is a German lawyer , historian and provenance researcher .

Life

Korte studied history , law and politics at the Free University of Berlin , the University of Munich and the Georgetown University in Washington DC Korte specializes in the research, identification and restitution of works of art that were created during the Nazi rule, World War II and immediately afterwards were lost (so-called looted or looted art). To do this, he draws on his specialist knowledge of private and public archives from the war and post-war periods. He gained notoriety when he tracked down the lost Quedlinburg cathedral treasure and was able to bring it back to Germany from the United States .

In 2013 he researched in Düsseldorf on behalf of the Max Stern Art Restitution Project and made various comments on the Schwabing art find .
