Petit Nevis is a tiny, private island in the Grenadines archipelago . It is located off the south coast of Bequia . The island is currently for sale.

geography

The island is located about 800 m south of the southeasternmost point of Bequia. It forms the continuation of the line from the Eastern Cape of Bequia over the rocky cliffs of Semples Cay , Middle Cay to Isle A Quatre in the southwest. Petite Nevis itself is irregularly shaped with several bays and headlands and the offshore island Syrup Cay in the northeast. The south-western tip is pointed.

The sparse vegetation on the island consists of "sea grapes" ( Coccoloba uvifera ) and palm trees.

history

The island is uninhabited, but has been used time and again by local whalers to scavenge their prey. Today, however, whaling is severely restricted by law. To this day, Bequia is hunted in small boats with hand harpoons . A tradition that was maintained by people like Captain Athneal Ollivierre († 2000). Ollivierre was one of the owners of the island. The last whale was harvested on the island in 1993. Since then a Flens station has been used on another island. Another owner was Eileen Corea . She died in July 2011. Moonhole isolationist community on the western tip of Bequia obtained the whale bones for their architecture from Petite Nevis.
