Petr Mandl

Petr Mandl (born November 5, 1933 in Pilsen ; † February 24, 2012 ) was a Czech mathematician who studied stochastics .

Mandl graduated from Charles University in Prague in 1957, spent 20 years at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and then taught actuarial mathematics in particular at Charles University .

He dealt with stochastic processes (with applications in population dynamics and modeling of financial risks) and actuarial mathematics and was chairman of the Czech Society of Actuaries with many international contacts from 1995 to 2003 . He built up a focus on finance and actuarial mathematics at Charles University.

He was a fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics . In 2009 he received the Silver Medal of Charles University and in 2009 the Czech Medal of Merit for Science.
