Petra Collins

Petra Collins (born December 21, 1992 in Toronto , Canada ) is a Canadian photographer, writer and film producer.

life and work

Collins attended the Rosedale Heights School of the Arts and the Ontario College of Art & Design . Her mentors were photographers Richard Kern and Ryan McGinley . In 2010 she created the website "The Ardorous" as an online platform for young artists. She has directed documentaries and music videos. In 2015 she shot a three-part documentary series entitled Making Space, which documents and examines what it means to be a young person in today's ever-changing world. Collins exhibits her work in galleries in New York , Europe and Asia. She was named "it girl" by Ryan McGinley and Vanity Fair and The New Yorker magazines . She has published 3 books so far. In her book Coming of Age she shows her latest work and photos from the last campaigns and essays she wrote about her early life in Toronto.
