In 1981 she got the chance to build an archive for Hildegard Knef , who had collected all publications and photos from the beginning of her career . Since the office was in Hilde's villa, it was inevitable that the two women met and later became friends.

Petra Roek accompanied Hildegard Knef to her performances, helped with the autograph mail, and took care of private and business correspondence . She looked after Hildegard Knef during the last years of her life, which were increasingly marked by illnesses, and ultimately helped organize the funeral ceremonies. Since the time of intensive work with the archive material, Petra Roek has acquired a large collection of autobiographical literature and specialist books, especially those in which Hildegard Knef appeared.

After Hildegard Knef's death, Petra Roek made contact with specialist committees, colleagues and fans of Hilde and filled in gaps in Hildegard Knef's life that Knef did not like to talk about in public, and separated the fictional from the real.
