Petteri Orpo (born November 3, 1969 in Köyliö ) is a Finnish politician and chairman of the National Collection Party . From 2016 to 2019 he was Minister of Finance of the Republic of Finland in the cabinet of Prime Minister Juha Sipilä , whose deputy he had also been since June 2017. He has been the opposition leader since 2019.

Life

Orpo studied at the University of Turku . From June 24, 2014 to May 29, 2015, Orpo was Minister for Agriculture and Forestry in the Stubb Cabinet, succeeding Jari Koskinen . In the Sipilä cabinet , he has been Alexander Stubb's successor in the office of finance minister since June 22, 2016, and has also been Deputy Prime Minister since June 28, 2017. Until his change of department, he was Minister of the Interior.

In June 2016, at the party congress in Lappeenranta , he won a vote against Alexander Stubb as the new leader of the National Collection Party .

He is married to Niina Kanniainen-Orpo.
