Petty Harbor – Maddox Cove is a town on the east bank of the Avalon Peninsula in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador , with a population of 960. The population has increased slightly compared to the previous census in 2011 of 924 inhabitants. The city is located about 15 minutes south of St. John's in the middle of Motion Bay. It's about 200 years old, but the site has been continuously inhabited since 1598. The settlement precedes the arrival of the Mayflower , making Petty Harbor one of the oldest settlements in North America. During King William's War , Petty Harbor was attacked by the French Canadians in the Avalon campaign .
