Petubastis III.

This article deals with the local king Petubastis Se-hetep-ib-en-Re, who resided in the Nile Delta during the 25th Tanis Dynasty. Also known as Petubastis III. designated anti -king Petubastis IV. Seheribre in the 27th Dynasty is described in a separate article.

Petubastis III. (also Padibastet III ; Assyrian Putubišti ) was from about 680 to 665 BC. During the 25th Dynasty ( third intermediate period ) Gaufürst von Tanis .

During his reign the conquest by Assurbanipal , who was supported by Psammetich I , fell. In the Assyrian annals of Ashurbanipal , the name of Petubastis III. as King of Sanu next to Psammetich I (Assyrian Sarludâri ). Presumably Petubastis III was. not involved in the conspiracy but apparently occupied Memphis instead . A short time later, however, he probably had to give up the city again.

Petubastis III. is probably identical to the fictional character of Pharaoh Petubastis in the demotic story The fight for the armor of Inaros . There it is reported that that Petubastis died around 674 BC. Was attacked by the then Assyrian king Asarhaddon .
