Pewex (abbreviation for Przedsiębiorstwo Eksportu Wewnętrznego - company for domestic export) was a chain of shops that sold goods in the People's Republic of Poland against western currencies, mainly US dollars and German marks . In addition, special payment slips from Bank Pekao SA ( Bon PeKaO ) were accepted there. You could mainly buy western goods there that were not available in the other state shops, and so on. a. Jeans , western cigarettes, alcoholic beverages and consumer electronics. The shops were founded in the 1960s.

In the 1990s, the Pewex chain was privatized, but went bankrupt shortly thereafter.

In the GDR, there was a comparable chain of retail stores with Intershop .

In Italy there is a supermarket chain Pewex (Pewex Supermercati), which even uses the logo of the Polish Pewex company, which no longer exists.
