Parish cemetery in Leonding

The parish cemetery in Leonding is the old, expanded cemetery of the parish church of St Michael in Leonding . It is operated by the parish of Leonding and is a listed building with the church.

history

For a long time, the cemetery was the only one in the municipality of Leondingen. It has existed since the foundation of the parish, which is mentioned as early as the 13th century. Parts of the cemetery wall from the 17th century are still preserved. Graves from the 18th century can be found on the church wall. The cemetery was expanded for the first time in 1874, and again in 1968. In 1969 the current funeral hall was built. It is decorated with a sgraffito frieze with the symbols of the Way of the Cross and sculptures by Alois Dorn . The urn sculptures are by Gabriele Berger .

Since the parish cemetery has reached its capacity limits due to the brisk construction activity and the associated high population influx and there is no space for expansion, the Leonding city cemetery was also created as a municipal cemetery in Alharting in the 1980s .
