Parish church Ardagger market
The parish church Ardagger Markt is located in Ardagger Markt in the market town of Ardagger in the district of Amstetten in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Nikolaus belongs to the Amstetten deanery in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .
history
The church is documented in 1049 as a vicariate church from the Ardagger monastery . The church was elevated to a parish church in 1356 and was incorporated into the Ardagger monastery until 1784.
architecture
The church stands high above the village and is surrounded by a cemetery. The Romanesque church building was extended Gothic with the south aisle. The Romanesque choir received a Gothic five-eighth closure . The south tower at the choir is a massive medieval defense tower .
Furnishing
The high altar as an openwork backdrop altarpiece with four columns and cranked entablature and a volute extension is from the middle of the 18th century.
