Ardagger Markt is one of four cadastral communities and at the same time the place of the market community Ardagger in the district of Amstetten in Lower Austria . The mayor is Peter Morawetz (ÖVP).
history
The place was called the "Golden Market" because it was very important from an economic point of view in earlier times. Ardagger Markt had the only easy crossing over the Danube and in Ardagger it was possible to avoid the swirls of the Danube by land . It was one of the most important but also the last landing stage above the Strudengau . Here the freight was reloaded onto ships, which were then safely steered through the struden by struden drivers.
Culture and sights
- Parish Church Ardagger Markt : The church, which stands above the market at 275 m above sea level, was first mentioned in 823 AD and is consecrated to St. Nicholas , the patron saint of waterways and shipping. It is from the Romanesque period and some components have been preserved, such as the ribbed vault. It is believed that in Roman times there was a control room on the site of today's church.
