history
In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .
The first mention of today's Ardagger market took place in 823 in the document Confirmatio Ludovici Pii , in which King Ludwig the Pious left the place ad artagrum ("arable field") to the Bishop of Passau . In 1049, Emperor Heinrich III. the goods of the outlawed brothers Ulrich and Askuin von Ardagger to Bishop Nitker von Freising for the establishment of the Ardagger Collegiate Foundation . The four political communities, founded in 1850, Ardagger Markt, Ardagger Stift, Kollmitzberg and Stephanshart were combined to form the municipality of Ardagger in 1971. However, the cadastral communities retain a strong degree of independence.
In 2012, the house number system, as well as street and street names, were changed as the old system became too confusing over the years due to numerous additions and new buildings. In addition, the postcodes in the entire municipality were converted to a common one (exception: it remains “3300” only in the Rotten operating area north, Hauersdorf and Schüsselhub ).
In 2004 the residents of the Moos village community, which is part of the municipality, built what is currently the largest plant- based wastewater treatment plant in the state on their own initiative .
