Neustadtl an der Donau is a market town with 2144 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Amstetten district in Lower Austria . The market is located on the Neustadtler Platte , a geologically special high plateau.

geography

Neustadtl an der Donau is located in the Mostviertel on the plateau of the Neustadtler Platte, an extension of the Bohemian Massif , which extends south across the Danube ; only Freyenstein and Hößgang are directly on the Danube in Strudengau . About 41 percent of the area of ​​the market town is forested.

The Neustadtler Platte has the character of a high plateau and is the southern branch of the Bohemian granite mass , which was separated from it by the Danube . As you approach the Danube, the appearance of rocky knolls and boulder blocks becomes more frequent. The Neustadtl market is located at an altitude of 507  m above sea level. A. The plateau is dominated by rounded Kogeln, including the Brandstetterkogel and the Gipfelstein. Hiking trails such as the Matrassteig or the Donau-Höhen-Rundwanderweg lead past the Viktoria-Adelheid-Schutzhütte . The cadastral community Berghof was originally called Judenhof and was renamed during the Nazi era. The cadastral map in the Amstetten land surveying office testifies to this.

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 2,152 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 2,239 inhabitants, in 1981 2,106 and in 1971 2,117 inhabitants.

Economy and Infrastructure

From an economic point of view, small-scale agriculture predominates in Neustadtl, which is often run as a sideline. Tourism has enjoyed a positive boom in recent years, especially along the Danube Cycle Path. Employers are small and medium-sized companies; There are no large companies or industry.
