Winklarn is located in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 12.57 square kilometers, about 19 percent of the area is forested.

history

In the vicinity of the place there are numerous former barrows from the Middle Bronze Age and the Roman Empire. In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .

Winklarn was mentioned in a document in 837 in a deed of donation from King Ludwig to the Prince Archbishopric of Salzburg . In 1972 there was a merger with the village of Haag .

Community partnerships

Since 1974 the municipality has had a partnership with the municipality of the same name in Winklarn in Upper Palatinate , which is expressed in mutual visits and participation in festivals and in many personal contacts.
