history
Perhaps already during Roman times, but certainly during the early Middle Ages , Viehdorf was a traffic junction between the Hochstraße coming from Oed and the Herfurt (Heerstraße) coming from Ardagger . At the intersection of the street was the fortified seat of Ennsfeld , today a village in Viehdorf. The irregular shape ( Haufendorf ) suggests that the town center is very old. The name Viehdorf derives from the name of a cattle breeding company, in Schiltdorf there was a company producing shields. It is possible that these businesses were established by the Lower Bavarian Metten Monastery .
Knights of Viehdorf can be documented from 1128, the family died out again around 1500. It is possible that there was a moated castle in Viehdorf at this time . Around 1600 Viehdorf became an important bastion of Protestantism and Seisenegg Castle became a center of evangelical aristocratic culture. Viehdorf did not become a Catholic parish again until 1775.
Seisenegg Castle , which belonged to the Lords of Walsee from 1303 to 1483 , became a local player due to its relatively convenient location and the importance of the owners, and was the seat of a regional court until 1848. Today it houses a cultural center and a registry office.
There is also a renaissance castle in Hainstetten, whose owners often changed. It is currently owned by the school sisters in Amstetten .
In recognition of his scientific achievements, Gustav Tschermak was raised to the hereditary nobility by Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1906 and was given the title "Edler von Seysenegg".
