The parish church of Assach is located in Assach in the municipality of Aich in Styria . The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Nikolaus belongs to the deanery of Upper Ennstal - Styrian Salzkammergut in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The church is a listed building .

history

The older church building was damaged in the peasant uprising (1525). The church belonged to the parish house and was raised to an independent parish church in 1787. A restoration took place in 1969/1979.

architecture

The late Gothic, two-bay choir has a ribbed vault that rests on nose-like consoles and a five-eighth closure from the second half of the 15th century. The tracery windows have two lanes. The rounded front arch separates the nave from the choir. The wide, baroque nave with barrel vaults and rectangular windows is from the first half of the 18th century. The wooden western gallery is from 1913. The western ridge turret wears an onion helmet . The sacristy is in the southern corner of the choir.

Furnishing

The facility was built at the beginning of the 18th century. The high altar picture St. Nicholas is from the 19th century. The fron arch cross is from the 17th century. There is a large picture of a protective cloak Madonna from 1720/1730. A painting shows the great fire in Assach of 1749 with the Sonntagsberg Trinity, Maria von Mariazell and the saints Nikolaus and Florian, depicted by the painter Johann Pöttschnickh. The organ was built by Carl Billich in 1888.
