The parish church of Bannberg stands in a steep, dominant position in the center of Bannberg in the municipality of Assling in the Lienz district in the state of Tyrol . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. Martin of Tours , belongs to the Lienz deanery of the Innsbruck diocese . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

Originally belonging to the original parish of Dölsach , the place became a local chaplain in 1794 and a parish in 1918.

A church was mentioned in a document in the middle of the 12th century. Gothic components have been preserved in the choir. In 1669 the church was expanded. In 1841/1842 the church was expanded and redesigned in classicist forms.

architecture

The simple church building with a polygonal choir and a tower with a pointed spire is surrounded by a cemetery with an enclosure wall. The nave stands under a steep gable roof, the choir is hipped. The neo-Gothic porch is made of wood. The tower shows pointed arch sound windows to the south and smaller round arched windows above.

The interior of the church shows itself as a single-nave four-bay nave, after the pointed triumphal arch the single-bay choir appears with a three-sided closure. The church is vaulted with a barrel vault with stitch caps, in the choir a little lower. The walls show themselves with flat pilasters and ogival windows. The gallery extends far into the nave.

The vault paintings were created by Christoph Brandstätter in 1843; in addition to decorative paintings, they show the Last Supper, the death of St. Joseph on the triumphal arch, Boniface falls the Donariche , martyrdom of St. Margareta. The glass paintings according to designs by Karl Rieder in 1956 created the Tyrolean glass painting .

Furnishing

The high altar around 1765 with a structure of columns, pilasters and an attachment with putti, and side passages, was restored in 1856, it shows the altarpiece St. Martin and the fourteen helpers in need from 1765 and in the essay St. Trinity, above the sacrificial portals are the statues of Nicholas and New Year's Eve. The baroque tabernacle is from 1956/1958. The side altar around 1670 with a simple structure with columns and blown triangular gable bears the figure of Pietà and the late Gothic statues Koloman and Ursula around 1520.

The organ from 1936 was made by Reinisch-Pirchner in 1964. Benedikt Graßmayr mentions a bell in 1656.
