Parish Church of the Assumption

The Roman Catholic parish church of Brand im Brandnertal is located in the municipality of Brand im Brandnertal in Vorarlberg . The parish church of the Assumption of Mary belongs to the dean's office Bludenz-Sonnenberg in the diocese of Feldkirch . The church and the northern cemetery are listed buildings .

history

A chapel of Our Lady was documented in 1410. In 1476 a priest was named. A new building, consecrated in 1507, was raised de facto in 1617 and de jure in 1727 to a parish church. The Gothic church was supplemented from 1961 to 1966 with a modern extension based on the plans of the architects Helmut Eisentle, Bernhard Haeckel and Leopold Kaufmann. In the north of the church in the cemetery there is a laying out hall from 1961.

architecture

The Gothic nave with a retracted choir has a roofed sign in the south of the choir . The north tower by the choir with a former pointed helmet from 1902 was given a gable roof in 1964. The wide, modern nave as a tall building under a steep pitched roof with an attached sacristy stands across the old nave.

The one-yoke choir with a five-eighth end has a single grooved net rib vault on half columns and two round keystones, pointed arched windows and on the left a round arch opening to the tower. The tower ground floor under a barrel vault is a confessional chapel. The slightly retracted triumphal arch is grooved. The narrow Gothic nave has a new trapezoidal wooden ceiling and two pointed arched windows on both sides. The modern nave is a prayer room with its own chancel under a gable roof.

Gothic frescoes in the old nave were uncovered in 1942 by the painter and restorer Toni Kirchmayr and show the saints Margaretha, Barbara and Katharina on the left, including Anna with Maria, two donors with the Brandis coat of arms, in the middle three saints, including Immaculata, and on the right Christ in limbo, including four figures, on the north wall at the top left a faded figure, including the risen man with Mary Magdalene, right Annunciation and four helpers in need, all around 1500.

Furnishing

On the altar wall is a group of figures Crucifixion with Maria and Johannes from Feldkirch around 1480. The tabernacle with an altar cross was created by Franz Steurer (1964). The figure of Mary with Child around 1500 was transferred here from the former Daleu Chapel. The miraculous image of Mary with the child of the Rosary Brotherhood from 1667 is in safekeeping. On the left wall of the altar is a crucifix from around 1680. In the confessional chapel there is a figure of Pietà from the mid-19th century. The stations of the cross are reliefs.

A Gothic side altar St. Videlis was in the Kapuzinerkloster Feldkirch until 1868 , from 1910 in the chapel in Kehr in Feldkirch, and in 1970 he was transferred to the parish church of Brand and set up in the sacristy. It bears the figures of Anna Selbdritt in the middle and Josef and Joachim to the side and the relief figures Nikolaus and Theodul on the inside of the wings and the Annunciation of Mary by the painter Hans Rabensteiner from the beginning of the 20th century on the outside of the wing. In the middle is the figure of the Coronation of Mary on the left Katharina on the right Barbara. The altar and figures are from the beginning of the 16th century.

The organ by Anton Behmann (1889) was rebuilt by Edmund Hohn (1962). In front of the altar hall in the choir, a bell was cast by the Oberanker company (1923).
