Catholic parish church of St. Ulrich in Feistritz am Wechsel

The parish church Feistritz am Wechsel is in the center of the municipality Feistritz am Wechsel in the Neunkirchen district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to Saint Ulrich of Augsburg , belongs to the Kirchberg deanery in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church with a defensive wall is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

Presumably from an initial benefit, a manorial parish was adopted around 1270.

The late Gothic fortified church was later changed to baroque and neo-Gothic styles. In 1835 a restoration was carried out with the establishment of a west portal porch. During the restoration in 1972, wall paintings on the south wall of the apse were uncovered.

architecture

The late-Gothic church building was surrounded by a medieval defensive wall, which has been preserved in the north, east and south-east; in the west, a neo-Gothic porch adjoins the defensive wall.

The nave is a mighty three-bay hall building from the second half of the 15th century with a gable roof and a defensive floor with loopholes and a western ridge turret with a pyramid roof. The western front is smooth and undivided. In front of the west portal there is a vestibule under a gable roof, in the triangular gable there is a building inscription showing Joseph Freiherr von Dietrich 1835. In the south wall of the nave there is a chamfered, ogival late Gothic south portal. The pointed arched windows and buttresses were presumably left out in the neo-Gothic style. To the south in the transition from nave and choir is a low sacristy extension from the 17th century under a pent roof.

Outside the church are tombstones of the Rottal family .

Furnishing

In the apse on the east wall hangs a baroque wooden crucifix from the second half of the 18th century with the statues of St. Ulrich and Wolfgang from the beginning of the 16th century.

There is a late Gothic figure of Mary on the crescent moon from the 16th century.

The organ in a neo-baroque case was built by Franz Svitil and Son (1863). There is a 14th century bell.
