The Roman Catholic parish church Harbach is located in Harbach in the municipality of Moorbad Harbach in Lower Austria . The parish church of St. John the Baptist belongs to the deanery Gmünd in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building .

history

From 1150 Harbach was looked after from Weitra. In 1456 a chapel of St. John the Baptist named as a branch of St. Martin. The church was originally surrounded by a cemetery, which was closed. From 1749 to 1757 the branch church was rebuilt as a spacious baroque church. The parsonage was built next to it from 1768 to 1771. In 1771 the church was elevated to a parish church for the places Harbach, Lauterbach, Hirschenwies and Maißen. In 1840 the south tower was raised. Around 1900 was a renovation.

architecture

The church has a nave with a little indented choir with a round choir. The facade shows arched windows and a uniform structure with pilaster strips with a plain west facade with shingled concrete slabs. The east-facing church has the tower with a pyramid roof in the middle on the south side of the nave. A stairway to the gallery is built to the west of the tower. The baroque sacristy was added to the east of the tower.

The interior of the church shows a two-bay nave with a needle cap barrel over straps on pilasters with a double strap in front of the little retracted triumphal arch. The one-yoke choir. The organ gallery over a segmented arch and arch gusset has a parapet structured with plaster.

Furnishing

The church received its late baroque furnishings from 1750. The high altar with a columned retable shows the high altar painting Baptism of Jesus by the painter Josef Kessler (1878) and has the late Baroque side figures Zacharias and Elisabeth on the side. The side altars in the Rococo style are in niches in the transition from the nave to the choir. The left side altar shows the Holy Family with the Johannesknaben from 1844 and bears the late Baroque side figures Joachim and Anna. The right side altar shows the picture Leonhard and Vitus from the 2nd quarter of the 19th century and bears the late Baroque side figures Florian and Sebastian. The pulpit with classicist elements is from 1800. The baroque granite stone bears a carved figure of St. Andreas around 1770. Jakob Preitschopf (1833) painted the Stations of the Cross pictures in 1800 style frames.

The organ from the end of the 18th century was made by Franz Capek (1905).

Rectory

The two-story rectory in the east of the church under a hipped roof has a facade with pilaster strips, stucco and ribbon ornamentation. The rectory was built from 1768 to 1773.
