Parish church Herz Jesu (Flüelen)
The parish church Herz Jesu is the church of the parish of Flüelen in the Swiss canton of Uri . The parish church stands on the Grundbühl between the old village center of Flüelen am Gruonbach and the Ausserdorf above Lake Uri .
history
Since 1284 the chapel of Flüelen, which was in the old parish Altdorf , belonged to the Fraumünster monastery of Zurich . On October 6th, 1520 a new Marien – Chapel with three altars was consecrated. In the 17th century, Flüelen received the first church consecrated to Saints George and Nicholas, which the apostolic nuncio Friedrich Borromeo inaugurated on November 16, 1664, after which the new parish of Flüelen became independent from Altdorf in 1665.
At the beginning of the 20th century the village needed a larger church. The court of arbitration appointed to determine their location designated the upper Grundbühl as the suitable building site. On August 19, 1909, the building contract was given to the architect Paul Siegwart (1876–1924) von Flüelen, who lived in Aarau . After the laying of the foundation stone on August 21, 1910, the consecration of the bells followed on December 3, 1911 and the solemn consecration of the church by Bishop Georg Schmid von Grüneck on August 6, 1912 .
architecture
The six-bay nave of the parish church is around 29 meters long, almost 15 meters wide and 12 meters high. The choir is completely painted. In the apse the Sacred Heart of Jesus is depicted above the altar, and the patrons of the old church, George and Nicholas, kneel on the sides.
Furnishing
Plaster busts of the apostles stand on the side main pillars. The apostles Peter and Paul are depicted in the colored choir windows. Painting of St. Josef, stained glass window of St. Agatha, St. Sebastian and St. Cecilia, bronze statues of St. Augustine and St. Gregory on the high altar and ceiling medallions of the 14 helpers in need are part of the rich pictorial program of the church.
The large-format blacksmith's work is the cross with the Sacred Heart signet on the church tower.
organ
Founded in 1911 by the organ builder Goll & Cie. The organ with 30 stops on 2 manuals delivered to the church of Flüelen in Lucerne was rebuilt for the first time in 1921 and then again in 1927, 1929, 1950 and 1962 and replaced in 1991 by a new organ from Mathis AG, Näfels.
Bells
The five church bells from 1911 were made by the Grassmayr bell foundry in Feldkirch .
