Parish Church of Kattau
The Kattau parish church, built as a castle chapel by Kattau Castle , is located in Kattau in the municipality of Meiseldorf in the Horn district in Lower Austria . The the feast of the Assumption , dedicated Roman Catholic parish church belongs to the deanery Horn in the diocese of St. Poelten . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).
history
In 1660 the church was founded by Baron von Puecher as a castle chapel, while an existing stately tavern was rebuilt, the cellar to the north of the church. From 1728 to 1734 the church was renovated and in 1738 the tower was built. In 1783 the church was elevated to a parish church. In 1984 the outside of the church was restored.
architecture
The single-aisled baroque church with an east tower was formerly connected to Kattau Castle by a bridge.
The exterior of the church has an elongated nave with a choir with pilaster strips under a gable roof. The southern arched windows have a stone frame with projecting lintel beams. To the north are sacristy additions with a staircase to the gallery. To the west, the church shows a smooth gable front with a low gate with a rectangular profiled window with stone walls from the 17th century. The square tower has structures with cornices, corner pilasters and corner pilasters, the arched sound windows have balustrades, it wears a pyramid helmet.
The interior of the church shows itself as a single-nave five-bay nave with a barrel cap barrel on belt arches on pillars with double pilasters and profiled entablature.
Furnishing
The marbled stone high altar with two Corinthian columns in front of a pilaster has partly gilded stone figures of John the Baptist and Julius from the middle of the 18th century. The high altar picture Madonna in Glorie was painted by Josef von Hempel (1837).
The organ was built by Matthias Metall (1845).
