The Roman Catholic parish church Kilb in the Lower Austrian district of Melk is dedicated to Saints Simon and Jude . The Kilb parish is incorporated into the Göttweig Abbey and thus belongs to the Melk deanery in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church itself and the partially preserved churchyard wall are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The predecessor of today's church, named in a document in 1080 as a parish church, was founded by Bishop Altmann von Passau . The current Gothic building was built in the second half of the 15th century. In 1476 two altars were donated, in 1486 the high altar. In 1516 the church was incorporated into the Göttweig Abbey. From 1964 to 1966 the church was restored outside and from 1965 to 1969 inside.

architecture

The church is slightly raised in the middle of the village in a walled and partly rebuilt terrace-like square. The unified staggered church with staggered choirs has a massive tower from the early 16th century in the west.
