history

The former Angerdorf Merkersdorf lies west of Ernstbrunn in a depression near the Senningbach. The place was mentioned in a document in 1150/1160. A parish existed around 1200. In 1719 the parish was rebuilt by the Ernstbrunn rulers . In 1764 the church was built with the builder Ignaz Gunold.

architecture

The church is raised in the north above the town of Merkersdorf on a stepped terrain and is surrounded by a churchyard wall. The north-facing late baroque hall church shows the place with the tower facade.

Church exterior

The tower was presented to the nave with the retracted choir with a triangle closure. The facade is uniformly structured with bottles and fields. The volute gable portal on the tower shows ornaments and fittings in the Rococo style and the year 1764. The top of the tower between volute approaches with corner pilasters and arched sound windows carries a pyramid roof. The sacristy is added.

Church interior

The three-bay hall and the slightly drawn-in choir of the same height are vaulted with a needle cap barrel. The organ gallery is drawn in and has a bulged center. The walls show themselves with marbled pilasters - doubled in the nave. The church has extensive rococo painting by the painter Johann Greippel (1764). The nave shows the vocation of the sons of Zebedee and evangelists, the triumphal arch shows the coat of arms of Sinzendorf and Grisaille busts Peter and Paul, the choir shows angels in a false dome.

Furnishing

The marbled furniture comes from the construction time. The high altar with a free-standing cafeteria with a rococo tabernacle has a crowning altarpiece of Mary with Child and a rococo altar candlestick. On the choir wall hangs the altarpiece Apotheosis of St. Jakobus by Johann Greippel (1765) in a rococo frame under a glory of clouds. The side altars show on the left the altar sheet Franz Xavier with the upper image of Teaching Mary and on the right the altar sheet Johannes Nepomuk, all by Johann Greippel, and has a carved crucifix on the top right.

The carpenter Johann Michael Reiff (1766) created the pulpit basket. The niche-shaped pulpit portal is crowned by a Holy Spirit dove in glory. There is an oil painting The Healing of Tobias in the style of the 2nd half of the 17th century. The seating is in the Rococo style. The font is made of red marble.

The organ with a staggered, two-part rococo case was built by the organ builders Josef Silberbauer (1780) and Joseph Gatto (1793). Ludwig Korrentsch (1858) cast a bell.
