The Roman Catholic parish church of Penk in the municipality of Reißeck in the Spital an der Drau district in the state of Carinthia is dedicated to St. Nicholas . The church, first mentioned in 1233, was renovated in 1988, while the architectural polychromy of 1808 was restored.

Building

The baroque-style building with a Romanesque core has a straight choir closure from the first quarter of the 18th century. The facade is structured by delicate pilasters , the capitals of which are decorated with lambrequin motifs. A brick tower with a bell helmet rises above the gable of the west wall. The bell was cast by Franz Anton Mayer in 1741. The sacristy is built to the north of the choir .

The two-bay nave has a flat roof. In the entrance yoke there is a masonry gallery above a column arcade. A round arched triumphal arch connects the nave with the choir. A flat vault with a stucco frame rises above the chancel with rounded corners and pilasters.

Facility

The high altar with a picture of St. Nicholas and the pulpit date from 1766. The post-baroque side altar shows in relief St. Joseph with the baby Jesus and was created like the console statues of the apostles Peter and Paul in the choir at the beginning of the 19th century. The carved guardian angel group on the north wall of the nave dates from the Rococo .
