The parish and pilgrimage church of Plankenstein is located in the Texingtal municipality in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church Maria Schnee belongs to the deanery Scheibbs in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building .

history

The church services used to take place in the chapel of Plankenstein Castle, which was, however, in a poor structural condition. That is why it was decided in 1948 to build a new church, which was built from 1950 to 1952 according to plans by Josef Friedl using stones from the castle. On May 25, 1952, the new church was consecrated by Diocesan Bishop Michael Memelauer . The baroque high altar shows the miraculous image of Maria Schnee.

In the parish church there is a plaque for the pastor, local researcher and founder of the St. Pölten Diocesan Museum, Johannes Fahrngruber, who was born in the nearby Wiesrotte in Frankenfels .

It is not only popular with pilgrims, but also as a wedding church.
