history

A church was documented in 1266, which was owned by the Vorau Abbey in 1306. A parish had existed since 1344. The current rectory was built between 1718 and 1724.

According to the inscription in the left side chapel, the church was rebuilt in 1700 facing west, probably according to the plans of the Vorau monastery master builder Andreas Strassgietl. In the left side chapel, the building inscription shows the coat of arms of Vorauer provost Philipp Leisl and the pronotary Rupert Prenner, who promoted the building of the church. The music choir with double galleries was renewed in 1776. 1958 was a renovation.

architecture

A retracted, broad rectangular choir adjoins the two-bay nave, both of which are vaulted with lancet barrels. The square east tower in front of it is older in the substructure and has an octagonal bell storey and an onion helmet, the tower gives the year 1700 on the portal. A rectangular chapel extends from the second nave yoke on both sides. On the north side of the choir there is an extension with a sacristy and oratory with the year 1700.

The stained glass windows were made in 1879.

Furnishing

The high altar with an illusionistic painted backdrop shows the high altar painting Apotheosis of Laurentius with the donor figure Rupert Prenner painted by Johann Cyriak Hackhofer (1711). The side altars from the third quarter of the 18th century show the images Annunciation and Joseph painted by Johann Cyriak Hackhofer. From the first half of the 18th century: On the front arch there are the figures of Mary with the child and Joseph, the figure of Johann Nepomuk and four oval reliefs of saints in the choir, two large pictures of the flagellation and Christ falling under the cross. The font case is from the end of the 18th century.

The organ from 1877 was created by Friedrich Werner.
