The Sieghartskirchen parish church stands on a hill above the Tullnertal in the market town of Sieghartskirchen in the Tulln district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. Margaret of Antioch , belongs to the Tulln deanery in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

Around 1100 the parish was founded by a manor. From 1228 to 1803 the parish was under the patronage of the Baumburg monastery .

In 1529 the church was destroyed in the Turkish War. The church was restored in 1971/1972.

architecture

The late Romanesque and Gothic overbuilt hall church with a Gothic choir has a mighty Romanesque gable tower with a monumental west portal. The church is surrounded by a fortification wall and a cemetery. The interior of the church was redesigned in baroque style.

The west tower with the funnel portal and the nave date from around 1260. On the north side a baroque chapel extension with a semicircular apse forms the rosary chapel . At the side entrance are the baroque statues of St. Anna and St. Joachim.

On the ceiling of the nave there are three frescoes with the depictions: "Adoration of the Most Holy", "Adoration of the Infant Jesus in the Manger" and "Flight of the Holy Family to Egypt". On the left choir wall there are four late Baroque statues of St. Sebastian, St. Anthony, St. Joseph and St. Donatus.

Furnishing

The altarpiece is flanked on the right by St. John of Nepomuk and on the left by St. Vincenz Ferrier.

The two inclined small late Baroque side altars made of red stucco marble depict on oil paintings: on the left Maria as intercessor of the poor souls and on the right St. Florian. The Florianialtar has been a sacrament altar with the tabernacle since the interior renovation in 1971, the high altar was converted into a people's altar.

On the basket of the pulpit, made in St. Pölten in 1902, there is a relief with the four evangelists and three angels with the attributes of love, faith and hope. Opposite the pulpit in the stucco frame is a wall shrine with a copy of the Altöttinger Madonna.

The new organ was built from 1995 to 1997 by Orgelbau Friedrich Heftner . It has 1300 pipes and has a total of 25 registers. 22 of them are sounding, divided into two manuals and pedal.
