The parish church of St. Veit im Mühlkreis is located northeast of the village at the highest point in the municipality of St. Veit im Mühlkreis in the Rohrbach district in Upper Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to Saint Vitus belongs to the deanery of St. Johann am Wimberg in the Diocese of Linz . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The church was documented as a branch church of Niederwaldkirchen in 1264. In 1344 the parish went to the St. Florian Monastery . In 1682 the parish became independent. Until 1837 the church was surrounded by a ring-shaped cemetery.

The walls of the south half of the nave are in the core Romanesque, the walls of the north half are Gothic renewed and extended. The Hager Chapel to the southeast of the nave was built around 1400 and vaulted in the fourth quarter of the 15th century. The baroque roof structure gives the year 1755. 1863 was a renovation, in 1927 the tower roof was restored, further restorations were in 1965, 1980, and inside 1964.

architecture

Remarkable late Gothic building with an early Gothic octagonal tower. The nave is a high, wide, star rib vaulted hall with pillars. The retracted triumphal arch has moved noticeably to the right. The only slightly drawn-in two-bay late Gothic choir with a five-eighth closure has late Gothic star-ribbed vaults with a strikingly wide spatial effect. The probably early Gothic west tower is remarkably slim with an octagonal floor plan. The late Gothic sacristy in the southern corner of the choir has an oratorio above it . To the south of the nave is the two-bay Hager Chapel with a rectangular floor plan with cross-ribbed and knick-ribbed star vaults.

Outside, the nave and choir show pointed arches, two and three-lane late Gothic tracery windows, the tracery are from the first quarter of the 16th century and have been partially renovated. In a later vestibule there is a gothic pointed arch portal with a pear stick vestment from the first half of the 14th century. The choir shows buttresses and a circumferential moss cornice, which is pegged at the edges. To the north, the nave has a remarkable fluted shoulder arch portal in a reinforced rectangular frame with the year 1520, the historicist door mentions 1904, the north portal has a segment-arched barrel-vaulted roof attached to buttresses or brackets.

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic furnishings have been preserved and come from two leading Upper Austrian workshops of late historicism, Ludwig Linzinger and Josef Kepplinger under Simon Raweder.
