Trio Rafale

The Trio Rafale is a piano trio from Switzerland. The name comes from the French word rafale , which means gust of wind in German . In a figurative sense, this can be a metaphor for all kinds of musically animated movement. The ensemble consists of Maki Wiederkehr (piano), Daniel Meller (violin) and Flurin Cuonz (violoncello).

history

The trio was founded in Zurich in spring 2008 . All three musicians were studying at the Zurich University of the Arts . From September 2009 they were looked after by Eckart Heiligers, afterwards by Rainer Schmidt in Basel . The trio received further musical impulses from Eberhard Feltz and Bernard Greenhouse, among others .

Concert activity

The trio has played concerts in Switzerland since it was founded, and in 2012 it was a guest at the Lenzburgiade and the Hitzacker Summer Music Days . In 2013 it made its debut in Paris . In autumn 2013 the Trio Rafale went on tour for the first time with the Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Kai Bumann with the Beethoven Triple Concerto . An international concert career soon developed with appearances in London , Edinburgh , Moscow , Japan , South Korea and most recently in March 2018 in Hawaii . The trio was guests at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the Davos Festival, the Prague Spring , the Lower Saxony Music Days Hanover and the Lucerne Festival . The ensemble has performed in the Wigmore Hall London , the Alte Oper Frankfurt , the Berlin Philharmonie and the Tongyeong Concert Hall (South Korea).

Prizes and awards

The ensemble won first prizes at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition (2014) and the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition (2011). The musicians also received first prize at the Concours national pour Trio instrumental Prix Geraldine Whittaker of Jeunesses Musicales de Suisse (2010) and won the 2013 Migros Culture Percentage chamber music competition , in which the ensemble was also awarded the audience award. In 2014 the trio was awarded an annual work prize for interpretation by the music commission of the city of Zurich.

In 2016 the Trio Rafale was accepted into the mentoring program of the Beethoven-Haus Bonn .

Her third CD, including early works by Debussy , Rachmaninoff , Shostakovich and Henze , was awarded the German Record Critics' Prize in May 2017 .
