Parish church Watzelsdorf
The parish church Watzelsdorf is elevated on the southern outskirts of the village of Watzelsdorf in the market town of Zellerndorf in the Hollabrunn district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to the Patronage of the Exaltation of the Cross , incorporated into the Schottenstift , belongs to the Retz-Pulkautal Dean's Office of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).
history
The parish founded in 1794 was incorporated into the Schottenstift.
The construction of the church according to plans by Damisch and Meinhardt began in 1794 and was completed between 1801 and 1803.
architecture
The uniform church building of Josephinism is oriented north-south and borders a cemetery in the east. The north tower can be seen from afar.
The classicist church building with a hall has a drawn-in south choir with a straight end, a northern extension with a front yoke to the nave and a risalit-like facade tower. The outer facade shows a simple structure with pilaster strips and banding and segmented arched windows, the nave has stepped supporting pillars. The sacristy is attached to the west of the choir.
The interior of the church shows a long house with strongly rounded corners under a grooved flat ceiling over a profiled cornice and a pilaster structure. The retracted triumphal arch is basket-shaped. The retracted rectangular choir has a square vault over belt arches on pilaster strips and pilasters. The organ gallery is vaulted under a square.
The ceiling painting in the nave shows the elevation of the cross painted by Hans Alexander Brunner in 1956.
Furnishing
The uniform classicist furnishings are from the end of the 18th century. The altar sheet Crucifixion of Christ was attributed to the circle of Martin Johann Schmidt .
graveyard
The cemetery has a historicist burial chapel from 1881. Rosina Bsteh 1817 calls a classical tombstone with a relief Guardian Angel.
