The Roman Catholic old parish church of Wiesen is at the local cemetery in the market town of Wiesen in the Mattersburg district in Burgenland . The former parish church of St. Barbara is part of the Deanery Mattersburg in the Diocese of Eisenstadt . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The church building from the 16th century was vaulted and consecrated in 1673. In the north, a church tower was built as a defensive tower, which is designated 1682 on the first floor. In 1795 the nave was extended to the east and a transept and a new semicircular apse were built. In 1864 a second floor and a stone pyramid helmet were added to the tower. The former vestry portal from the 17th century has been preserved on the south arm of the transept.

architecture

The four-bay ship lies under a high-domed square vault between straps on flat pilasters. The transept arms are square vaulted , the apse has a bowl vault . There are wall paintings by Stephan Dorfmeister.

Furnishing

The former high altar painting 'Saint Barbara' from 1886 hangs on the front wall of the apse.

The font from the 18th century, a crucifix from the end of the 18th century, a relief tablet with the Sermon on the Mount from the former pulpit from the 2nd half of the 18th century and a statue of Saint Barbara from the 1st half of the 18th century were in transferred to the new parish church of the Holy Spirit .

Ignaz Hilzer cast a bell in Wiener Neustadt in 1861 .
