The Roman Catholic parish church of the Holy Communion belongs to the Catholic parish of the Holy Communion of Steinebach am Wörthsee (part of the municipality of Wörthsee ) and thus to the dean's office of Starnberg in the diocese of Augsburg . The church was consecrated on October 24, 1964.

The parish of the Holy Communion was founded in 1960. It includes around 2000 Catholic Christians in the districts of Wörthsee: Auing, Etterschlag, Steinebach, Walchstadt and Waldbrunn.

history

In 1960 the villages of Etterschlag, Walchstadt and Steinebach were merged to form a Catholic parish and the parish for the Holy Communion was founded in September 1960. By building a new church, the old existing village churches had become too small, the inhabitants of the newly created community should be brought together and a spiritual center should be created. The new church was to be designed by the architect Siegfried Östreicher at the request of pastor Elmar Schnitzler (1926-2010) . However, Alexander von Branca won the architectural competition . However, the lay committee preferred the draft by Östreicher and then implemented it with a few changes. The originally planned organ and the singing gallery were omitted as well as the planned choir screens.

The foundation stone for the new church was laid on May 25, 1963. The consecration was carried out on October 24, 1964 by Bishop Josef Stimpfle .

location

The parish church is about 250 meters northeast of the Wörthsee on a slope surrounded by old trees. It is located directly on St 2348 (Etterschlager Straße) in the Steinebach am Wörthsee district and at the intersection of the Steinebach, Walchstadt and Etterschlag districts. The kindergarten belonging to the parish is about 70 meters to the north from the parish church.

architecture

Outside

The parish church of the Holy Communion with its almost completely glazed main entrance faces south-west, towards the Wörthsee and faces away from the main street. On the other side, the church building is closed and clad with raw shell limestone. This creates the visual impression of a defense structure.

The 32-meter-high tower with a high, copper-clad pointed helmet and a hexagonal floor plan is connected to the church via the separate sacrament chapel and moved away from the church.

The church also impresses architecturally with the unusual room figure (polygonal floor plan), the free-standing altar and the separate sacrament house. This parish church is one of the earliest churches in the diocese of Augsburg, which implements the column-free, central spatial construction concept and the tent symbolism.

Inside

The baptistery is located between the two south-western main portals. In the basement there is a working day church in the form of a crypt.

The three-tiered altar island with the free-standing, block-like main altar was created by Blasius Gerg. Michael Veit made the tabernacle while Paul Fuchs designed the candlesticks and crosses. The Easter candlestick, the ambo and the altar of the lower church are by Fritz Wegmann. These furnishings from the construction period have been supplemented over the decades and in parts also replaced: The unconventional statue of the Virgin Mary by Johannes Dumanski has recently been replaced by a figure by Anton Rückel. Like the tabernacle, the ambo and the sediments of the lower church, this stood in the Moritzkirche in Augsburg - until it was redesigned from 2009 to 2013. The bronze portals, altar candlesticks, the lecture cross and a prophet figure were also made by Dumanski. The wax collage in the apse apse was created by Renate Gier in 1988. The ambo in the choir was also added; the original gospel stand stands today in front of the tabernacle. Most recently, in 2013, the church received an organ from the Robert Wech workshop in Buchloe, which was located on the front wall to the left of the apse .

Modern street

As part of the modern sacred architecture project of the German Liturgical Institute in Trier , the Strasse der Moderne was launched. A modern church building has been presented every week since July 2015 (over 200 Catholic and Protestant churches from the 20th and 21st centuries), whereby for the project team, modernity begins with Art Nouveau .

The parish church "For Holy Communion" is part of this project and was presented on January 6, 2019, on the Three Kings Day.

kindergarten

Together with the construction of the parish church, the construction of the parish center and a Catholic kindergarten were also planned. It was the first kindergarten in town. The inauguration took place together with the consecration on October 24, 1964. From 1982 to 1984 a renovation and extension took place.

The kindergarten is run by the Catholic Church Foundation for Holy Communion in Wörthsee. Represented by the respective parish priest.
