description

View of the location

The cross is a so-called atonement cross . The slender sandstone cross has the shape of a Latin cross and is approximately 135 cm × 86 cm × 25 cm in size. It stands in a green area on a stone base. The cross is well preserved, has weather- related depressions (so-called crumbling holes ) and is slightly mossy (as of December 2018). The edges of the arms are beveled. In the intersection area there is a relief that is difficult to interpret . The stone cross, which was created in the 16th century, has been designated as an architectural monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments (D-5-71-128-4).

According to tradition, the last Roman Catholic parish priest Hieronymus Güttinger died in 1552 after being mistreated by soldiers. The stone cross that was erected reminds us of the scene of the crime.
