The ocellated turkey ( Meleagris ocellata ) is besides the actual turkey the only other type of turkeys ( Meleagris ). It is common in northern Central America .
features
Peacock turkeys reach a weight of 3.25-4 kg and are 71-92 cm high and 90-100 cm long. The hens are only 1.9–2 kg and 65–69 cm high. The plumage of the peacock turkey is shiny red, green, blue, and purple in color. The neck and head are featherless and light blue. The area around the eyes and the flap of skin of the rooster hanging over the beak are red.
distribution
Peacock turkeys are only widespread on the Yucatán peninsula . They occur on the territories of Mexico , Guatemala and Belize . The habitat is the tropical rainforest, but open areas nearby are ideal for foraging.
