Backstop net

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Backstop nets are tight-fitting nets made of synthetic fibers that are used in archery to catch the arrows , especially when it is difficult to find arrows shot past the target due to unclear terrain or vegetation , or when property damage can occur (for example when shooting in a sports hall ).

The net is not permitted as direct protection for people, as it is possible to shoot through or over it under unfavorable circumstances.

The mostly green or white backstop nets are sold by the meter, mostly 2.70 m wide, with eyelets on the upper edge in various thicknesses and stretched on a steel cable . The net must be appropriate to the strength of the arch and must hang loosely in folds at a sufficient distance from the wall, otherwise it can be shot through.

The net effect consists in converting the kinetic energy of the arrow into heat (elastic stretching of the net) and potential energy ( deflection of the net).
