Pflasterpass was founded in November 2013 in Berlin by Frank M. Liehr and Rainer Seiler and is a nationwide campaign that offers first aid courses for children in day-care centers and primary schools. The children learn in an age-appropriate and playful way how to react in an emergency, how to make an emergency call and how to provide first aid themselves. The children are encouraged to make an emergency call themselves in an emergency, they learn to put on a plaster or bandage and they learn to lie on their side . The aim is to take away their fear of unexpected situations. At the same time, they are made aware of dangerous situations.

The content is conveyed in a playful way with the help of an animal story by “Hedgehogs and their friends”. There are three levels, the plaster pass course in bronze for kindergarten children (4–5 years), in silver (5–6 years) for pre-school children and in gold for elementary school children (7–8 years).

The aim of the initiative with the slogan “Knowledge can save lives” is to offer these modular courses as a nationwide uniform standard for first aid training for children by 2022. There will be 32 Pflasterpass locations nationwide by the beginning of 2020. In 2018 the first Pflasterpass shop was opened in Dresden , with a room for the Pflasterpass courses.

Pflasterpass gGmbH has been an official member of the Federal Working Group More Safety for Children since 2016 and was supported as an annual project in 2019 by the aid organization of Baden-Württemberg Pharmacists.

Since 2020 there has been a cooperation with the Björn Steiger Foundation in order to implement the nationwide range of Pflasterpass courses by 2022.

Awards

In 2017 the Pflasterpass initiative won the Dekra Award for security at home.
