The main tasks include the periodic monitoring of motor vehicles ( general inspection , examination of the engine management and emission control system ), reports, safety checks and the testing of technical systems as well as certifications and safety advice.

Dekra operates as an "officially recognized monitoring organization" in the old federal states. Dekra has 480 branches throughout Germany and carries out regular vehicle inspections in 38,500 test centers (workshops). The Dekra Academy, which is responsible for training and further education, is represented at 150 locations.

Group structure

The Dekra e. V. has around 44,000 members. These are predominantly companies with commercially used vehicle fleets, such as forwarding agents, which are economically and technically supported by Dekra. Among other things, employee training is carried out for companies that are involved in the safe transport of dangerous goods or substances .

Dekra e. V. holds 100 percent of the shares in Dekra SE . This acts as a holding company for the subsidiaries organized in the following three business areas:

  • Dekra Industrial (industrial & construction testing, material testing & inspection, product testing & certification, system certification, consulting)
  • Dekra Personnel (qualification, temporary work)
  • Dekra Media

The group has a total of 230 subsidiaries and holdings and is active in more than 50 countries.

The Dekra Akademie GmbH is a private education company with 150 locations in Germany. It is a division of Dekra.

The Dekra University of Applied Sciences Berlin belongs to the Dekra Academy and is therefore part of the Dekra Group. Dekra Hochschule Berlin was founded in 1997 as a media academy. The university has been offering bachelor's degrees since 2000. Until the state recognition as an independent university in 1997, this was done in cooperation with the Mittweida University.

In the 2019 financial year, the expert organization achieved the best result in its more than 90-year company history. Sales rose by 2 percent to 3.4 billion euros. At the end of 2019, Dekra had 43,961 employees across the Group.

history

In 1925 the German Motor Vehicle Monitoring Association was founded in Berlin . No exams were carried out during World War II. In 1946 the employees resumed their work at the new location in Stuttgart . In 1961 the Dekra was recognized as an official monitoring association. The first training center was opened in 1977 in Wart . Vehicle inspections were first offered in France in 1981. In 1990 Dekra AG was founded and took over the tasks of the association. In addition, there was then a commitment in the field of quality management . The Dekra ETS was founded in 1991 and took over tasks in the fields of technical safety, materials testing and construction. Dekra Umwelt was founded in 1993 together with Kölnische Rückversicherung . From 1993 onwards there were further collaborations in Eastern Europe.

In 1996, former employed engineers started their own business and joined the company as DEKRA partners. This has resulted in around 50 partner offices. On July 13, 2010, Dekra AG was renamed Dekra SE ( Societas Europaea ) and thus became a European company.

Dekra has been the official sponsor of the DFB soccer referees since 2003 . Between 1991 and 1995, Dekra achieved great popularity worldwide as the exclusive advertising partner with Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher . Dekra has been a technical partner and sponsor of the DTM since 1989 .

Memberships

Dekra is a member of the European Movement Germany network .

Courses / social engagement

As with TÜV Nord , Dekra also offers courses for recipients of unemployment benefit II . Under certain circumstances, they are then occupied with tasks that are not directly useful on their courses, such as solving a puzzle . The company receives between 500 and 800 euros per participant per month for this service. At Dekra, the division is called "Toys Company".

The project pursues two goals, namely to give families and single parents in need access to free toys and at the same time to make it easier for the long-term unemployed to return to work through qualification and practical training. The basic principle of the Toys Company is based on collecting used toys - from board games to children's bicycles - through fundraising and, if necessary, repairing and cleaning them professionally in our own workshop. When the toys are functional again, they are given away to families in need with children (upon presentation of an unemployment benefit II notification), as well as to social institutions such as kindergartens, children's homes, youth centers and hospitals.
