coat of arms

Since 1931, the town's coat of arms has consisted of a green Zweiberg, at the incision of which a silver ploughshare marked with the Latin W is aimed, on the tops of which there is a green fir with a brown trunk and which is covered with two upward-pointing, brown stag poles.

history

The beginnings of the village go back to the 12th century. Wart is first mentioned in documents in 1329. As a feudal settlement, the place was since 1363 part of the "Countess-Württemberg land advantage Nagold".

In the short time from 1808 to 1810, Wart belonged to the Altensteig Oberamt, which, however, was dissolved again, since then to the Nagold Oberamt . On January 1, 1975, Wart was incorporated into Altensteig.

economy

The residents of Wart were described in the Oberamtsbeschreibung from 1862 as "generally physically strong and well grown" , they were "hardworking, thrifty and have a lively sense of religion" . For many centuries, agriculture and forestry, as a sideline , fruit growing and home weaving, formed the livelihoods of the inhabitants. Today there are only a few family businesses that cultivate the municipal area.

Despite its modest income, the village was able to create remarkable community facilities early on. The school and town hall that still exists today was built in 1846, replaced in 1965 by the construction of a new school building with a gym. In 1929 the community built a swimming pool and created a lake. For this reason, too, it received the award as a tourist municipality in 1938.
