Emergence

Ebershardt was founded towards the end of the 9th century by the Udalrichinger family in a pasture forest (Hart) belonging to the older Fronhof Ebhausen. This part of the pasture forest was probably named after a law enforcement officer employed or already resident here - ewalte . The name was transferred to the new Fronhof, which was then called Ewelshart. In 1312 the place Ewelshart is mentioned for the first time in a document. A little later a family (von) Ewelshart also appears. She was the owner of the Fronhof in the 14th century, but then sold it to the Reichenbach Monastery. In the conflict with Baden, which the Bailiwick held over the Reichenbach Monastery, Count Eberhard im Bart from Württemberg subjugated this monastery property to his sovereignty, probably in 1468. Ebershardt has been in Württemberg since that time.

Place names and coat of arms

Places with the ending “-hardt” indicate a settlement area (“light forest”) with good pasture. This pastureland is also reflected in the green shield base of the talking coat of arms - above it a standing black boar in silver. Clay tablets with the same coat of arms can still be found under landmarks from the 16th and 17th centuries. The similarity of the coat of arms with the coat of arms of Eberstadt (Buchen) , Ebersbach an der Fils , Ebersbach / Sa is striking . or Eberschwang , to name just a few. The earlier spelling "Ewelhardt" description of the Nagold Office / Chapter B 8 could, however, also indicate a proper name, such as that of the founder. In the description of the Oberamt Calw , a Wolf Ewelshard, a citizen of Bulach, is mentioned, who in 1406 received the commission to “make a mine there”.
