A post-and-beam construction is a construction method for facades with which extremely filigree glass facades can be produced.

The load is transferred via the vertical posts to which the horizontal ledgers are connected. The infill elements are held in place by horizontal and vertical pressure bars that are screwed onto the posts or transoms.

Steel, aluminum or wood are used as load-bearing materials. Elastic sealing elements are used between the facade fields and the load-bearing facade structure.

In order to protect the window elements from accumulating moisture, there is an internal drainage to drain away sweat and condensation water.

advantages

The big advantage in relation to glass facades are very slim outer pressure bars, which are only 5 cm wide depending on the case. It is also advantageous that, in addition to solid glass or panels, window or door elements can also simply be clamped in place.

disadvantage

The main disadvantages of the mullion and transom façade are the addition of frame widths when integrating an opening sash. These increase the visible frame width of the otherwise very narrow construction. An alternative for many opening elements is the element facade , in which parts of the opening elements can be accommodated within the construction. Compared to conventional perforated facades, a post and bolt system costs around 30% more.
