Pharnakes II
Pharnakes II († 47 BC ) was a king of the Bosporan Empire from 63 to 47 BC. Chr.
Pharnakes was the son of Mithridates VI. from Pontos . Pharnakes rose in 63 BC. Against his father, who was expelled from Pontus by Gnaeus Pompeius and fled to the Bosporan Empire, which was under his rule. There Pharnakes forced Mithridates to commit suicide in Pantikapaion .
After Pharnakes delivered his body to Pompey, he was recognized as King of the Bosporan Empire. In the course of the turmoil of the Roman civil war between Caesar and the Pompeians, Pharnakes tried in 47 BC. BC to regain his ancestral paternal kingdom, but he was defeated by Caesar in the battle of Zela ( veni vidi vici ). Pharnakes was able to escape, but only a little later fell victim to the usurper Asandros on the Crimean peninsula .
