Pharos

Pharos (Greek Φάρος ) means:

in ancient geography:

  • a rocky peninsula off Alexandria in Egypt and
  • the Pharos of Alexandria , a lighthouse on this peninsula, one of the seven wonders of the world
  • an island off the Illyrian coast, today's Hvar in Croatia, and
  • a Greek colony on the island, today's Stari Grad (Hvar)
